First United Methodist Church has a variety of Ministries that offer an array of opportunities for spiritual growth. Christ-centered studies presented in different formats are provided through our Sunday school classes. We invite you to visit our classes and other groups and find one or more that speaks to your needs and desires as you develop and strengthen your walk with Christ.

Additional information about the Adult Ministries of First United Methodist Church can be obtained by calling the church office at 903.657.6588.

  • Worship Ministries

These ministries offer opportunities to serve at one or both of our morning worship services. From greeting at the door to serving communion to ushering and everything in between, there is an area that needs YOUR touch.

  • Fine Arts Ministries

Youth and adults are encouraged to share their gifts and talents through the vocal and instrumental ensembles in our Fine Arts Ministries. We have the Common Ground Praise Band (Contemporary Service) and the Chancel Choir (Traditional Service)  to choose from.

  • Growing Ministries

Our Growing Ministries involve three areas: Childrens, Youth and Adults. If you enjoy working with kids, consider teaching a Sunday School class, helping with worship, being a part of Wednesday Night Friends or Vacation Bible School, leading missions for our CHAMPS group or being a part of our Easter and Christmas festivities.

Our FUMC Youth are always in need of leaders, shepherds, helpers and friends. If you're interested in shaping the lives of young adults, they meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.

We offer a variety of adult growing ministries. There is a Sunday School class for every age and interest, from the Young Adult Class to the Brookdale Assisted Living Class. Visit them all and choose the one that fits your needs. Our Wednesday morning Bible study for adults is also a great way to learn and grow spiritually.

  • Praying Ministries

We have four prayer teams that meet on a rotating basis, as well as a prayer shawl group. Our prayer ministries are on-call to respond and help anyone and everyone. The church receives prayer requests daily. If you feel you can offer a prayer, silent or vocal, please join one of you Praying Ministries.

  • Caring Ministries

The Caring Ministries at FUMC are here to help and comfort the families of our congregation as they weather the storms of life. Groups you can consider joining include hospital visitation, adopt a shut-in, transportation, traffic cones, grief recovery, meals for bereaving families, hospitality for parents of newborns, altar flowers for shut-ins and cards to members. As you can see, there are plenty of areas to choose from.

  • Library Ministries

We have both adult and children's libraries that offer a wide variety of resources. Our staff librarian works part-time and hosts Library Lunches every two months, with refreshments and lively discussions.

  • Hospitality Ministries

Being a part of one of our Hospitality Ministries affords volunteers the chance to get to know both members and guests. You can sign up to be a worship greeter, a special event greeter or to give our guests a gift and invitation to return.

  • Church Family Ministries

Like to plan events, cook for a crowd or organize fellowship opportunities? Then, Church Family Ministries is the place for you. This group puts together church-wide gatherings and Sunday morning brunches. Coordinators, cooks and participants are always welcomed.

  • Administration Ministries

The church staff works hard to meet the administrative needs of FUMC. However, it couldn't all get done without volunteers. If you're interested in helping with distribution of the newsletter or being an Office Angel, we want you. Duties include answering phones, preparing mail outs, filing and making phone calls.

  • Communication Ministries

We communicate with our community in many ways, but two special areas are our church sign and our church bell. Changing the weekly message and ringing the bell at the beginning of worship take only a few minutes, but are very important to our mission.

  • Facility Ministries

Whether you prefer working indoors or outside, our Facilities Team could use a hand. They work to maintain our building and church grounds.

  • Family Fitness & Recreation Ministries

Interested in fitness and fellowship? Make plans to join the basketball group on Tuesday nights for a fun game of basketball in the Great Hall from 6-8 pm for ages high school and up.

  • Reaching Ministries

Our Reaching Ministries are focused on local missions. Click on the Missions tab for more information on how you can help.
