Sunday October 18, we will begin a new sermon series on the Old Testament book of Jonah. Jonah was a prophet who was told by God to go and preach against the city of Nineveh – Israel’s arch enemy. Jonah didn’t want to go, so instead of obeying God, he booked passage on ship going the other way. The story is most famous for Jonah’s encounter with a big fish in his attempt to run away from God.
The story of Jonah is more than an encounter with a big fish — it is an adventure of a reluctant prophet who learns some important lessons about obedience, grace, redemption, forgiveness and Gods love for all people.
